Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian held a regular press conference on October 13. The US Treasury Department announced a new sanctions package yesterday, involving more than 300 companies, banks and dozens of individuals, these individuals and entities from Russia and China. According to the US State Department, the new sanctions are aimed at hurting Russia's economy during the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Will these new sanctions affect Sino-Russian economic cooperation in the future?
In response, Lin Jian said that China and Russia are comprehensive strategic partners of coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides has its own internal logic and strong resilience, which is in line with the interests of the two countries. China firmly opposes any illegal unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction". Normal economic and trade exchanges between China and Russia should not be disrupted or damaged, still less should they become a tool to smear and contain China.
Lin Jian said that on the issue of the Ukraine crisis, who is calling for dialogue for peace and who is offering fire and knives to encourage confrontation, the international community is clear to see. On the one hand, the US continues to provide arms and ammunition to Ukraine, on the other hand, it is shifting the responsibility for disrupting peace and delaying the crisis to other countries, and even taking the crisis as an opportunity to wantonly sanction and suppress other countries. This is the most hypocritical and overbearing part of the organization.
Lin Jian said that the United States has arbitrarily imposed unilateral sanctions on a global scale, causing endless harm, seriously undermining the sovereignty and security of other countries, causing humanitarian tragedies and undermining the stability of the production and supply chain. After the escalation of the Ukraine crisis, the United States has intensified its sanctions, and this kind of disorderly use of sanctions sticks will not help solve the problem, but become a major source of risk for the world. China is not the creator of the Ukraine crisis, nor is it a party concerned. We will never accept smear, pressure or blame shifting.
We urge the United States to immediately stop imposing arbitrary and illegal unilateral sanctions and play a constructive role in a ceasefire, cessation of fighting and restoration of peace. We will also take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and citizens.
